Awards mark the End of Term for The Hyndburn Academy Published on : 19 July 2021 / Categories: General Students and staff at The Hyndburn Academy celebrated the end of the summer term today with their annual awards ceremony recognising outstanding achievements across the academic year. As part of the virtual event, special awards were handed out for everything from individual subject work to contributions to the wider school community. These were given to students who had shown the values of ‘ambition’, ‘confidence’, ‘creativity’, ‘respect’, ‘enthusiasm’ or ‘determination’. Alongside their awards, each of these students received a goody bag – but 15 of them contained a ‘Golden Ticket’. This entitles the lucky winner to a ticket to Alton Towers for the new academic year. In addition, at school, all students who had displayed model behaviour throughout the year were also treated to a free ice cream from the dedicated van on site for the day. The virtual ceremony was even more poignant this year given the challenges all schools have continued to face due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In beginning the event, Headteacher Nicola Palmer congratulated students and staff for the way in which the whole school community had managed these challenges and reflected on the successes of the academic year despite the national picture. Nicola Palmer, Headteacher of The Hyndburn Academy, said: “It is always important to mark the end of the summer term and to thank and congratulate our school community for their hard work over the course of the year. With the additional challenges of the last 18 months, it is even more impressive that our students and staff have managed so successfully with a mix of home and in-school learning and continued to show such character and determination in all they have done. “Today’s celebrations have been a fantastic reminder of all that has been achieved and of the ambition we all share for our academy’s bright future. Whilst it has been sad to say goodbye to our brilliant group of Year 11s it is also exciting to look ahead to a new school year in September when we will welcome a new cohort of Year 7s for the very start of their secondary education.” Previous Article HDS Euro 2020 competition.
