A group of Year 8 students from The Hyndburn Academy had a truly memorable experience as they visited the Warburtons factory—an opportunity they earned by winning a project during our recent Personal Development Day.
The students began their visit by presenting their ideas to members of Warburtons staff, who were thoroughly impressed by their creativity, confidence, and understanding of the business. Following their presentations, the group was treated to a fascinating behind-the-scenes tour of the factory.
From pancakes and crumpets to pittas and potato cakes, students saw the full production process in action. As they explored the site, they met employees from a range of departments and discovered the wide variety of job roles available within the food manufacturing industry—from engineers and lorry drivers to warehouse operatives, security staff, and even robotics technicians.
To round off the day, each student was given a bag full of Warburtons goodies to take home—much to their delight!
Mrs Holden, Teacher of Technology, shared her thoughts on the experience:
💬 "I am interested in computer science, and I can see how they use computers and robots when making things. I would like to become an engineer so I can fix any problems."
The students also had some fantastic reflections to share:
💬 "This trip made me think that they use lots of machines and fewer people as it saves time. It would be a good first job when you are 18!"
💬 "Good pancakes 🙂 Gary was great!"
💬 "I learnt about all the different job roles at Warburtons like lorry driver, engineers, warehouse operative, cleaners, security, receptionist, mixer."
💬 "I loved the day! There were lots of fascinating machines. I would like an apprenticeship there helping fix things."
💬 "I thought our visit to the factory was really fun and interesting."
💬 "It was really helpful because you can see the different options, what you might want to be when you are older."
We are incredibly proud of our students for the enthusiasm, curiosity, and maturity they showed throughout the day. Experiences like these form an important part of our Education with Character approach, helping students explore the world of work and consider their future pathways.
Well done, Year 8—you were brilliant!
