The Hyndburn Acdemy Girls Shine at Netball Finals

On Thursday 27th March, there was success for The Hyndburn Academy as the school’s netball team came second in the United Learning National North Finals in Manchester.

Battling some tough competition, the girls, in Years 9 and 10, showcased their impressive skills on the court, winning two out of their three matches at the Final. After being put through their paces in a match against overall winners Tranby School, the Hyndburn girls upped their game and won their next two matches against Manchester Academy and Stockport Academy respectively.

Throughout their matches, the girls were determined and demonstrated some excellent attacking and defensive play to secure an admirable second place, after only being beaten once.

The United Learning National North Finals bring schools across the Group in the North of England together to play against each other in a competitive but fun and encouraging tournament.

Speaking about the team’s success, Olivia Pemberton, who was awarded Player of the Match in all three matches, said:

"Competing at the United Learning North England Netball Finals was an incredible experience! Playing at the amazing Platt Lane Sports Complex was a real privilege, and the standard of competition was so high. I’m really proud of how our team worked together—we supported each other every step of the way. Being awarded Player of the Match three times was a huge honour, but it was definitely a team effort. Coming second in the Finals is an achievement we’ll never forget!"

Nicola Palmer, Head Teacher at The Hyndburn Academy, added:

“We are so proud of our wonderful girls for their fantastic performance at the United Learning National North Finals in Manchester. They fought hard against some brilliant teams and should feel very pleased with how effectively they worked as a team and encouraged each other to play their best. Well done to everyone who took part on a successful tournament.”
