Last week, our Year 10 students stepped out of the classroom and into the world of work for an exciting and eye-opening experience. Work Experience Week provided them with the opportunity to explore different industries, develop essential skills, and gain valuable insights into potential future careers.
Students were responsible for finding their own placements, which ranged across a diverse selection of sectors, including mechanics, care homes, yoga studios, and retail giants like Tesco. This independence allowed them to demonstrate initiative and determination—key attributes in the working world.
Over the five-day period, students immersed themselves in real workplace environments, taking on tasks and responsibilities that gave them a true taste of professional life. Those in mechanical workshops got hands-on with tools and problem-solving, while others in care homes provided companionship and support to residents, learning the importance of empathy and patience. Meanwhile, students in yoga studios witnessed the benefits of wellness and fitness industries, and those at Tesco experienced the fast-paced nature of retail, developing customer service and teamwork skills.
"For me, working in a care home was really meaningful," said Isabella, "It opened my eyes to how rewarding helping others can be. I think it’s changed the way I see my future.”
For many, this week was an invaluable learning experience, helping them shape their career aspirations. Some discovered new passions, while others gained a better understanding of the demands and rewards of different job roles.
Head Teacher Miss Palmer shared her thoughts: “Work Experience Week is a cornerstone of our school’s approach to preparing students for life beyond education. It’s inspiring to see our young people taking these opportunities seriously and growing in confidence and maturity in such a short space of time.”
We are incredibly proud of our students for their enthusiasm, resilience, and willingness to embrace new challenges. A huge thank you to all the businesses and organisations that hosted our students, offering them guidance and encouragement.
As Year 10 returns to school, we hope this experience has inspired them to think about their futures with greater confidence and excitement. Well done to all involved!
