Our school’s Community Iftar returned for its third year, welcoming students, staff, families, and community members of all faiths and none to break fast together. This special event fostered unity, understanding, and reflection during the holy month of Ramadan.
The evening began with a warm welcome from two of our teachers, followed by a Quran recitation by Mawlana Waleed, a former student of The Hyndburn Academy. HYA students then presented short performances on the theme of coming together as a community and the experience of a family preparing to break their fast.
Mawlana Waleed and Father Eddie from St. Peter and St. Paul’s Church in Rishton delivered inspiring speeches on the virtues of fasting in Islam and the importance of interfaith relationships. This was followed by heartfelt reflections from Humna on what fasting means to her, and a moving poem about Ramadan by Faizan. Muhammad and Zohaib then performed "A Month of Light – The Month of Ramadan."
Shafek recited verses from the Quran with English translation, deepening the spiritual atmosphere. As the sun set, Imran called the Adhan (call to prayer), marking the time for Maghrib prayers. Attendees respectfully remained seated until the call to prayer was finished before proceeding to pray.
Following prayers, everyone enjoyed a delicious iftar meal together, supporting community stalls and engaging in meaningful conversations. Guests departed at their leisure, having experienced a night of connection and shared reflection.
We are grateful to all who attended and contributed to the success of this event, and we look forward to continuing to foster unity and understanding within our community.
